Scope and Content Ballantyne's Mill, also known as Tweedvale Mill, Galashiels Road, Walkerburn, Peebles-shire Ballantyne's Mill (also known as Tweedvale Mill) was founded in 1855 as a tweed mill, and was subsequently greatly enlarged. This view shows the street frontage of the mill, and its fine brick chimney, with in the foreground a block of the distinctive mill housing built by the company. Walkerburn was a company town, owned by the Ballantyne family, who developed it from 1855. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
