Scope and Content Weavers' cottages, Main Street, Carlops, Peebles-shire Carlops was founded as a weaving village in 1784 by the local landowner, Robert Brown of Newhall. Eventually it had three blocks of cottages, a hotel (which may have been designed as a wool store) and a later church. This view shows one of the blocks of cottages, with a later block of two-storey houses on the right. The bay window and porches are later additions. The village did not expand significantly subsequent to its initial creation because of its very restricted site. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
