Scope and Content Offices, Balerno Paper Mills, Balerno, Midlothian This was one of the last paper mills west of Edinburgh to operate. It was originally a hand mill. This view shows the neat sandstone baronial office block of 1916, It contrasts with the modern brick shed to the left. Balerno was very much a paper mill village until the 1970s, when it became a dormitory for Edinburgh. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
