Scope and Content Water tower, Eskbank Road, Dalkeith, Midlothian Water towers such as this were built to give adequate pressure in water mains to supply premises above the average height for the water supply system. This is an early example. This view shows the panelled brick base, and the boarded timber superstructure which houses the iron tank. This is a very small example of the type. Modern water towers are generally built of concrete. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
