Scope and Content Water tower, Eskbank Road, Dalkeith, Midlothian Water towers such as this were built to give adequate pressure in water mains to supply premises above the average height for the water supply system. This is an early example. This view shows the ornamental construction, with an octagonal brick and stone base, boarded wooden structure surrounding the iron tank and neat conical roof. Most modern water towers are built of concrete and are very much larger than this one. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
