Scope and Content Glenkinchie Distillery, by Pencaitland, East Lothian Glenkinchie Distillery is a Lowland Malt Whisky distillery, one of very few survivors. The present buildings date mainly from the 1890s, when the distillery was rebuilt by the Glenkinchie Distillery Co. This view is from the entrance. The nearer block of buildings are bonded warehouses, and the farther one was built as maltings. The use of brick construction for distilleries was rare. Glenkinchie was built to use the fine malting barley grown in East Lothian. It survived where others failed because of the quality of its whisky. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
