Scope and Content Office block of British Ropes Ltd., Clyde Patent Wire Rope Works, 1 Lloyd Road/ Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen, Glasgow, Lanarkshire This building is in a style typical of Glasgow architecture of the period. It was designed by EA Sutherland. This view shows the two-storey red sandstone building with the corner tower designed to be a prominent feature of its crossroads site. British Ropes Ltd., as the name of this works suggests, made wire ropes on this site. Wire ropes were used in coal mines, in ships' rigging and in cranes on a scale now unimaginable.
