Scope and Content Working-class housing, Millar Terrace, Farme Cross, Rutherglen, Lanarkshire One of a pair of two- storey terraces built by the Glasgow Working Men's Investment Trust & Building Society for artisans, on the model of similar developments in Edinburgh. This view shows the front of one of these terraces. The ground-floor houses were entered from this side, and the first floor houses by external stairs at the back. These blocks, known as Smith and Millar terraces, were much superior to the type of houses built by employers for their workmen at that time, reflecting the relative prosperity of skilled workmen in the 1870s.
