Scope and Content Drawing showing plan of chapel and burial-ground at Gleann na Gaoith', Islay, Argyll and Bute The remains of a chapel and burial-ground lie at Gleann na Gaoith', c.5km north-east of Portnahaven on the south-east coast of Islay's Rhinns peninsula. The chapel may possibly date from as early as the 9th or 10th century. This drawing shows the layout of the chapel and burial-ground. The entrance to the burial-ground is to the north (top). The chapel's doorway is in the west end of its north wall. A low turf-covered platform at the chapel's east end may be the altar. To the south-east of the chapel are the remains of a rough platform which may mark the site of a grave. Two Early Christian carved stones lie in the burial-ground, while a third from the chapel is now in the Museum of Islay Life in Port Charlotte, Islay. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
