Scope and Content Detail of inscription to Lady Elinor Campbell on Campbell Tomb inside Kilarrow Parish Church, Bowmore, Islay, Argyll and Bute The planned village of Bowmore stands on the east shore of Loch Indaal. It was established in 1768 by Daniel Campbell as part of his reorganisation of his estate, and involved the removal of the village of Kilarrow from the vicinity of Islay House. The distinctive circular Kilarrow Parish Church stands at the top of Main Street overlooking the village. It was built at a cost of £1,000 in 1767-9 to replace the former parish church in Kilarrow. An inscribed panel above the entrance commemorates this. In the porch are three funerary monuments to members of the Campbell family of Islay. This inscription from a black marble sarcophagus made by D Hamilton & Son, Glasgow, commemorates Lady Ellinor Campbell (d.1832) and Walter Frederick Campbell (d.1855).
