Scope and Content Detail of West Highland grave-slab in burial-ground at Kilarrow Parish Church, Bridgend, Islay, Argyll and Bute The village of Bridgend is situated at the head of Loch Indaal, just north of Bowmore. The medieval Kilarrow Parish Church was originally sited here, within the grounds of Islay House, until a new parish church was built in Bowmore in 1767-9. There are a number of funerary monuments and crosses in the burial-ground of the old parish church dating from various periods. This tapered grave-slab was carved in the period between the 14th and early 16th century. At the top of this slab is a square panel of interlace carving. Below, within a cupsed niche, is a female figure wearing a short cape and a pleated skirt. She holds a rosary in her left hand and a book in her right. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
