Scope and Content Detail of exterior of east window of Kilnave Chapel, Loch Gruinart, Islay, Argyll and Bute This late medieval chapel at Kilnave stands on the west shore of Loch Gruinart on Islay's north coast. Although it has been roofless for several centuries, the walls are still relatively intact. A 19th-century wall encloses the burial-ground. As seen here, the walls of the chapel are constructed of thin slabs of rubble bonded in coarse lime mortar. The voussoirs of this round-headed window in the east wall are also of thin slabs of stone, as are those of the west doorway and south window. The style of the window-heads here are similar to other late medieval work at Dunollie and Dunstaffnage Castles. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
