Scope and Content Detail of north face of cross-shaft at Keills, Islay, Argyll and Bute The village of Keills lies c.1.5km south-west of Port Askaig on Islay. This 14th- or 15th-century cross-shaft stands above the village on a low mound which may have been constructed as a base for the cross. The socket-stone is probably original. Both sides of the shaft are carved with plant-scrolls similar in style to those created on Iona. On this side of the shaft, the scroll ends in a dragon's head at the foot, while on the other side, it ends in a pair of dragons' heads. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
