Scope and Content Detail of rear of cross-shaft from Laggan, now held in the Museum of Islay Life, Port Charlotte, Islay, Argyll and Bute Laggan lies across Loch Indaal from Port Charlotte, overlooking Laggan Bay on Islay. The remains of a chapel stood on the banks of the River Laggan but over time the river has gradually eroded the ground and washed these away. Part of the burial-ground has also been washed away. The surviving portion contains a number of grave-markers, and other fragments, including this one, have been found in the eroded riverbank and removed to the Museum of Islay Life in Port Charlotte. This is the front of the lower part of a free-standing cross dating from the 14th to early 16th century. The legs and feet of the Crucified Saviour are carved at the top. The lower portion was possibly originally inscribed, but now appears blank. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
