Scope and Content View from west showing Lurabus township, Islay, Argyll and Bute The remains of the township of Lurabus are situated on the east coast of the Oa peninsula of Islay, overlooking Kilnaughton Bay. Probably dating from the early 19th century, much of the township seems to have been abandoned by the late 19th century. This view shows building A in the centre and building B to the right. Building A, a byre-dwelling, was probably cruck-framed -a form of timber-framing using timber 'blades' or 'crucks' as supports, resting on stone footings. Building B was a dwelling. Also visible are the remains of a number of walls which enclosed the fields within the township. These walls were of either drystone or stone-and-turf construction.
