Scope and Content View from north showing remains of former reservoir and offices at Mulreesh lead mines, Islay, Argyll and Bute Mulreesh lead mines are located 3km west of Port Askaig on Islay. Possibly worked during Norse times, the most active period for the mines was the 18th and 19th centuries when they were the most important workings of the Islay Lead Mining Company. This shows the remains of the former reservoir, known as 'The Washings' (right) and office (left) for the mine. A series of lades running from the lochs in the surrounding hills supplied the reservoir with water. The office was later the home of Mr Edwards, who opened another shaft at the end of the 19th century just before the mine closed. The remains of a total of ten shafts are in evidence today.
