Scope and Content Aerial view of chapel on Nave Island, Islay, Argyll and Bute Nave Island lies just north of the northern end of the Rhinns peninsula of Islay. The remains of this medieval chapel and burial-ground are situated on the south-eastern shore of the island. The chapel, first mentioned in 1549, has its origins in the early 13th century, and was out of use by the 18th century. A furnace and chimney for burning kelp was added in the early 19th century, and a lean-to was added to the south wall. Only a small curved portion of the burial-ground's enclosing wall now remains, and this can be seen to the left of the chapel. Most of the boundary of the burial-ground was constructed of turf dykes.
