Scope and Content Detail of West Highland grave-slab at Nereabolls Chapel, Islay, Argyll and Bute Nereabolls lies south of Port Charlotte on the Rhinns peninsula of Islay. The chapel has been dated to the medieval period, and may have been dedicated to St Columba. Very little now remains of the building. Within the ruins of the chapel, there are a number of funerary monuments, many of which have been moved from their original positions. Most of those which have been moved are now held in the Museum of Islay Life in Port Charlotte. This 14th-15th century grave-slab bears the effigy of a priest with hands clasped in prayer. There is a carved chalice to the left of his head. Other decoration includes a foliated cross, some interlace and three animals whose tails lead into plant-stems.
