Scope and Content Two-man malt-box, Bruichladdich Distillery, Islay, Argyll Bruichladdich Distillery was built in the 1880s. It is a good example of a distillery constructed in one phase to a carefully conceived plan. This two-man malt-box was used to carry malt. To make whisky, barley is allowed to germinate into malt. This is dried, milled and mixed with hot water to make wort which is fermented with yeast. The resulting wash is distilled to produce whisky which must then be matured in casks.
