Scope and Content Sorting bay in Cart Bank Laundry, Kilbarchan Road, Johnstone, Renfrewshire The tables in this section are being used to sort out laundered items by customer for return. This view shows heaps of laundered items being prepared for return to customers. Items were given a laundry mark to enable them to be identified. Small laundries of this type were common in Scotland from c1900 until the 1960s, when domestic washing machines became common. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
