Scope and Content The very large crude carrier (tanker) 'Nordic Clansman' being fitted out at the Clyde Graving Dock, Kingston Shipyard, Port Glasgow This was one of the very large tankers built by Scott Lithgow, in halves, at the Kingston Yard, Port Glasgow. The vessel was almost complete when this photograph was taken. his bow view shows the great bulk of the vessel, and its bulbous bow, designed to reduce the amount of power used to propel it. This quay was part of the facilities provided when the Clyde Graving Dock was built in the late 1950s. The dock was intended to serve large vessels, but ship size rapidly outstripped its capacity Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
