Scope and Content Hull of the replica of the paddle steamer 'Comet' at the Kingston Shipbuilding Yard of Scott Lithgow Ltd., Port Glasgow To mark the 150th anniversary of the first voyage of Henry Bell's pioneering steamship 'Comet', Lithgows Ltd. commissioned a working replica. After the celebrations it was put in store at the Kingston Yard. This view shows the hull from the stern. It was built of wood to the original lines plan, by the Jones boatyard at Buckie, in Banffshire, who were still building wooden fishing boats. A year or so after this photograph was taken, the vessel was placed in the town centre car park in Port Glasgow, where it remained on display for more than 20 years, until it was removed for repair.
