Scope and Content Low-pressure cylinder of a stationary steam engine in the Grandholm Works, Aberdeen, of Crombie & Co, woollen cloth manufacturers Crombie & Co were leading producers of high-quality woollen cloth for coats and suits. The engine of which this was a part drove part of the mill machinery. This view shows one of the two cylinders of the engine, during dismantling. The engine was built by Hick, Hargreaves of Bolton, and had two cylinders, to use high-pressure steam in two stages. The engine was photographed while it was being carefully dismantled for preservation by the Scottish Society for the Preservation of Historical Machinery, Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
