Scope and Content Planing machine at the works of Manlove Tullis, Kilbowie Ironworks, Clydebank Manlove Tullis was an amalgamation of two companies who specialised in making laundry machinery. The Clydebank works belonged to D &J Tullis. Planing machines were used to machine accurately flat surfaces on machine parts. Each machine had a moving table, as can be seen in this view, with cutting tools in holders mounted on a moveable crosspiece. Manlove Tullis had a well-equipped machine shop, capable of undertaking a wide range of medium-scale engineering. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
