Scope and Content Titled: 'Stirling Castle, a great position' Notes: 'Built and adorned by James lll, and the favourite residence of James lV, his son, who married Princess Margaret, daughter of Henry Vll and sister to Henry Vlll. James lV fell at the Battle of Flodden fighting against the English, 1513. James V was born here and ascended the throne when only two years old, and Queen Margaret became Regent and married Douglas, Earl of Angus. Obliged at last to fly to the Court of England she bore a daughter, Lady Margaret Douglas, afterwards married to the Earl of Lennox and their son was the unhappy Darnley. James V fled to Stirling when he escaped from Angus at night and made it his residence after wandering about disguided as 'The Good Man of Ballangeich'. Jame V married first Magdalen, daughter of Francis l of France, and a few years after he married Mary, daughter of the Duke of Guise, and Mary, Queen of Scots, was their daughter,1542.'
