Scope and Content Aerial view of Laphroaig Distillery, Islay, Argyll The Laphroaig Distillery was established in the mid 19th century as part of a farm. It is a good example of the type of distillery which emerged after changes in the law in 1816 and 1823, and developed slowly to become a large production complex. This aerial view shows the distillery in the 1970s. Long warehouses flank the main complex, and are used to store whisky which must be allowed to mature for at least three years.
