Scope and Content Ardbeg Distillery, Islay, Argyll Ardbeg Distillery was founded in the late 18th century by Alexander Stewart, but is first recorded in operation in 1817-18. General view of the distillery, showing its principal components, which include the boilerhouse and associated chimney, used to generate steam to heat the stills and hot water for the mashing process.
