Scope and Content Aerial view, Ardbeg Distillery, Islay, Argyll Ardbeg Distillery was founded in the late 18th century by Alexander Stewart, but is first recorded in operation in 1817-18. An artificial channel, or lade, is visible to the extreme left of this aerial view, carrying water to the distillery. A bonded warehouse on the shoreline bears the distillery name on its seaward face. To its left is the pier. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
