Scope and Content Drawing showing layout of Airds House, Argyll and Bute Airds House is a well-preserved Classical mansion which was built for Donald Campbell of Airds in 1738-9. The architect is unknown but the inspiration for its design may have been derived partly from the south front of Marble Hill House in Twickenham. In the centre of the plan is the main block with an oval stair hall at the centre. There is a projecting centrepiece three bays wide. To the right and left of the main block are the corridors linking the main house to the pavilions. To the right are the additional buildings built behind the right pavilion in 1858. Also added in 1858 were the square bay windows at the back of the main block. Internally, the house has been remodelled several times. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
