Scope and Content Standing stones at Ballymeanoch, Argyll and Bute The Ballymeanoch group of standing stones is arranged in two almost-parallel rows of four and two stones apiece, aligned on a north-west to south-east axis. Just to the north-west of the group stood a monolith, perhaps an outlying stone to the setting. The east face of this stone is decorated with at least 70 plain cupmarks, as well as others with rings and gutters. The Kilmartin valley is particularly rich in standing stones and stone rings. The purpose of such monuments is unknown. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
