Scope and Content The interior of St Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Falcon Avenue, Morningside, Edinburgh, looking east St Peter's Roman Catholic Church, a rather austere building in an Italianate style, was designed by the Edinburgh architect, Sir Robert Lorimer in 1906. The church was the brainchild of Canon John Gray, who became its first parish priest, 1907-34. The interior has lofty nave arches of whitewashed brick, with the arch of the north transept cut across by the organ gallery. The roof, with massive cross-beams, is lined with Oregon pine, and gives the appearance of a curved vault. The interior of the church was radically transformed, reputedly to conform with the spirit of the Second Vatican Council (1963). Lorimer's altar, iron altar-rail and timber pulpit have disappeared, along with eleven Stations of the Cross by John Duncan. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
