Scope and Content St Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Falcon Avenue, Morningside, Edinburgh, seen from Falcon Gardens St Peter's Roman Catholic Church, a rather austere building in an Italianate style, was designed by the Edinburgh architect, Sir Robert Lorimer in 1906. The church was the brainchild of Canon John Gray, who became its first parish priest, 1907-34. The church has a tall campanile with a Chinese-looking roof built into the angle of the nave and the south transept. The chancel is apsed, and the priest's house and presbytery, with a red pantiled roof and Gothic windows, extends from the south transept. Sir Robert Lorimer (1864-1929) built over 50 country houses in Britain, and restored many castles and churches in Scotland. His most notable public works are the Thistle Chapel in St Giles', and the Scottish National War Memorial in Edinburgh Castle. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
