Scope and Content Early 20th-century view of Morningside Station, Morningside Road, Morningside, Edinburgh Morningside Station, at the southern end of Morningside Road, was opened for passenger traffic in 1884. The station was built opposite the old toll-house at the southern boundary of the village of Morningside, and was the terminus for horse-drawn trams. The Morningside Station offices (centre) were built at street level. The horse-drawn tram (left), usually helped by boys and trace horses, had an arduous journey up the steep slope of Morningside Road to Church Hill on its route to the city centre. Horse-drawn trams were introduced in 1872, and provided a service from Morningside Station via Church Hill to Register House at the east end of Princes Street. The fare was three pence for passengers travelling inside, or two pence for those on the roof. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
