Scope and Content Entrance to House of the Fairies souterrian, Hirta, St Kilda, Hebrides The House of the Fairies, a souterrain or underground house possibly religious in purpose, was discovered and 'restored' in 1844. Excavations have uncovered an iron spearhead, stone tools, and Iron Age pottery of a type found elsewhere in the Hebrides. This is the entrance to the souterrain.
