Scope and Content Custom House, Custom House Street, Shore Street, Ullapool, Highland Ullapool was refounded in 1788 by the British Fisheries Society who allocated plots and erected a pier, warehouses and an inn. Six years later, local herring stocks vanished and the town's economy collapsed. Its economy revived in the mid 19th century. The Custom House was a built in the 19th century as a base for the harbour and excise authorities. The arch-roofed shed (left) was built as a warehouse for storing goods.
