Scope and Content Loch Broom Free Church (now Parish Church), Mill Street, Ullapool Ullapool was refounded in 1788 by the British Fisheries Society who allocated plots and erected a pier, warehouses and an inn. Six years later, local herring stocks vanished and the town's economy collapsed. Its economy revived in the mid 19th century. Loch Broom Free Church was built to designs by William Henderson of Aberdeen in 1844, the year after the Free Church formed. The metal ventilator in the centre of the roof was probably added in 1906. The Free Church of Scotland was created as a result of the Great Disruption of 1843 when nearly a third of the Church of Scotland's ministers left to form a separate church.
