Scope and Content Harbour, Ullapool, Highland Ullapool was refounded in 1788 by the British Fisheries Society who allocated plots and erected a pier, warehouses and an inn. Six years later, local herring stocks vanished and the town's economy collapsed. Its economy revived in the mid 19th century. This is the harbour looking out across Loch Broom. The pier (left) was erected in 1788, extended in wood and concrete in 1912 by G Woulfe Brenan and further altered in 1977. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
