Scope and Content Cross-lined kitchen door, ground floor, Foulis Castle, near Evanton, Highland Foulis Castle, in its present form, was built between 1740 and 1777 by the Munro family who had owned the land since the 13th century. Parts of its masonry contain sections of an earlier tower-house which existed by 1587. The kitchen door is cross-lined for strength. This means that it is constructed using two layers of timber, each with the grain at right-angles to the other. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
