Scope and Content Dining hall, ground-floor, Ardross Castle, Highland Ardross Castle was built in its present form as a Victorian Scots Baronial mansion in 1880-1 by Alexander Ross incorporating parts of an earlier house. This is the dining hall. The bare beamed roof and carved wooden fittings are typical of Scots Baronial interiors. Historical styles like Scots Baronial, inspired by pre-18th-century architecture, became popular in the 19th century because they reflected national, rather than Classical, architectural traditions.
