Scope and Content Aerial view of Ravenscraig Castle, Kirkcaldy, Fife Originally built for James II's widow, Mary of Gueldres, work began on Ravenscraig Castle in 1460, and continued on and off until it was granted to William Sinclair, Earl of Caithness in 1470. There have been various alterations and additions since. This aerial view gives an excellent plan view of the castle. It clearly shows the castle following the shape of the land, and the difference in height between the two towers. The castle would have been accessible by sea. As the photograph shows, the main building of the castle was situated slightly inland, with associated buildings located on the seaward end of the prmontory. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
