Scope and Content PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM NO 25: MR DOG ALBUM – in progress Photograph album with view of sites across Scotland as well as the Isle of Man, Windemere and India. Scrap Album, purple cloth embossed on front cover with black pattern. Inscribed: 'Scraps', (inside front cover) 'MR' (1878-post 80) The album includes amateur snapshots and albumen prints, some by George Washington Wilson and James Valentine, but the photographer is unidentified for many of the photographs. The photographs are undated but are likely from the 1870s-1880s. The album contains views of castles, abbeys, bridges, stations and topography from across Scotland including a number of photographs from Dumfries and Galloway with views of sites in Kirkcudbright and Tongueland, Tarff Station, Moffat and Sweetheart Abbey. There are also photographs showing Jedburgh Abbey, Neidpath Castle, Crieff, Loch Katrine, Kyles of Bute, Blairgowrie, Perth, Melrose Abbey, Abbotsford, bridges in Berwick-upon-Tweed, old Tay Bridge, and a number of views of Edinburgh including Craigleith Quarry, University buildings, Craigmillar Castle, Princes Street and Arthur Seat. It also includes photographs of the Windermere area and Isle of Man, a carte de visite of the Tower of Pisa, as well as a view from Bellary Fort, India, with a lady riding side-saddle and Bellary Rock, and a missionary with a group of people, possibly in India. The album also contains a number of photographs and fine art reproductions of dogs and cats, a ‘Playscene in Hamlet’ and ‘An evening with Van Dyke’ as well as a loose painted rose cut-out.
