Scope and Content Sheriff Court and Jail, Castle Hill, Inverness, Highland Inverness Sheriff Court House was built to designs by William Burn in 1833-5. The curtain-walls, by Joseph Mitchell, date from 1839. The Jail, now the District Court, was added by Thomas Brown Junior in 1846-8. The complex occupies the hill to the right of the photograph. The building with the tall towers near the centre of the photograph is the Jail. Inverness Sheriff Court and its associated buildings stand on the on the site of the old castle destroyed by Jacobites in 1745. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
