Scope and Content Dr Bell's School (now Public Library), Farraline Park, Inverness, Highland Dr Bell's School was built in 1839-41 by William Robertson. It originally operated on the 'Madras' system whereby the teachers taught the most intelligent boys who in turn taught the less intelligent. The building is Greek Revival in style with a Doric portico over the main entrance. Doric is one of the mathematically defined architectural styles or Orders used by the Ancient Greeks and Romans during the Classical period which were rediscovered by Renaissance architects and remained fashionable until the 20th century.
