Scope and Content Exercise-gallery of Cromarty Court-house, Highland Cromarty Court-house accommodated the county and burgh councils. It was built by George Ross, owner of the Cromarty estate. The cell block was added in the 1840s. The exercise-gallery allowed prisoners to enjoy fresh air without making it any easier for them to escape. It has iron bars and a roof made of large slabs. It is virtually escape-proof. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
