Scope and Content 1960s view of Fortrose Station, Fortrose, Highland Fortrose began as a settlement belonging to the canons of Fortrose Cathedral. It became a royal burgh in 1590, but in 1691 was said to be still a 'little village'. By the later 19th century, the town was an established holiday resort. This photograph of Fortrose Station was taken in 1960. The station itself was built in 1894. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
