Scope and Content Union Street, Fortrose, Highland Fortrose began as a settlement belonging to the canons of Fortrose Cathedral. It became a royal burgh in 1590, but in 1691 was said to be still a 'little village'. By the later 19th century, the town was an established holiday resort. Number 11 Union Street (right) was built in the early 19th century. Number 9, to its left, was built in around 1800. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
