Scope and Content Stobhall, chapel, Perth and Kinross The chapel is the earliest of several buildings of medieval or later date situated on the promontory at Stobhall. Possibly of 14th- or 15th-century date, the chapel became a ground-floor hall when it was incorporated into a tower-house in 1578. The simple rectangular chapel has a particularly fine painted ceiling dating to 1642. The ceiling was repainted in 1858. This detailed view of one of the panels shows 'Rex Mauritanae'', King of Mauretania. The ceiling is decorated with figures of contemporary kings from Britain, Spain, Sweden, France, Hungary, Poland, Mauretania, the emperor of Germany, Sultan of Turkey and Prester John, interspersed with panels of animals, birds and floriated designs.
