Scope and Content Stobhall, tower-house, painted ceiling, Perth and Kinross The tower-house of Stobhall was built in 1578 for the Drummonds on a promontory overlooking the Tay. The earlier medieval chapel was converted into a ground-floor hall. The chapel has a particularly fine painted ceiling and elsewhere in the tower-house there are painted beams. These ones are in the tower bedroom and the decoration includes foliage designs, flowers and grapes. In the late 16th or early 17th century a single-storeyed laundry range, with a brewhouse and a bakehouse in the basement beneath, was added to the north of the tower, and a dower house was built across the neck of the promontory.
