Description The dower-house, view from W

Catalogue Number SC 397919

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of B 39092

Scope and Content Stobhall, dower house and garden, Perth and Kinross Built in the 17th century, the dower house is one of several buildings of medieval or later date situated on the promontory at Stobhall. The dower house is viewed here from the west. The dower house was built by John Drummond, 2nd Earl of Perth. His initials, and those of his wife, are carved in the pediment above the door, 'EIP' and 'CIP', for Earl John Perth and Countess Jane Perth. The chapel is the earliest of the buildings at Stobhall. Possibly of 14th- or 15th-century date, it was incorporated into the tower-house in 1578. Other buildings include a laundry, brewhouse and a bakehouse. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
