Scope and Content 1-4 Shorehead, West Wemyss, Fife 1-4 Shorehead was built in the early 18th century. A chimney gablet projects from the centre of the roof. The window-surrounds were altered in the Victorian period. West Wemyss became a burgh of barony in 1551. Initially its economy was based on salt-making though it had a harbour by 1621. In the 19th century, the town became dominated by the coal industry. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
